Fairbanks Day 4

Another good day in Fairbanks! I hope everyone else is doing well this evening too. Today, I began the morning by considering if I wanted to go back to bed, but ultimately decided “no, no I’m in Alaska, I want to get up.” So I did and I headed over to the ANLC and eventually met up with Dr. Charles, the guy whose been helping me get this project off the ground. He is an awesome guy and I’m glad I finally got to meet him! He took some time out of his day and took me out to lunch and we were able to talk about Kotlik and my project and what I really needed to get done before I went (So basically super last minute things that were overlooked, lost in conversation, ect…). Additionally, he taught me a few phrases in the Kotlik dialect, but sorry don’t ask me to repeat them now, I promise I’ll remember them eventually though. We then went to the ANLA and I got to see the Yup’ik collection and discussed what metadata I would need to collect for my work in order to archive my stuff at the ANLA. It all went well and was very helpful. I then proceeded to get in touch with some individuals in Kotlik to discuss my time there and perhaps even my living situation (though that is still kinda up in the air so…). Ultimately, I’m feeling pretty good and I think everything will work out in the end and this summer will be successful. I hope. But I worry about everything, so it’ll probably all work out. This evening Dr. Charles and his SO took me out to dinner at a local place; it was delicious food (I got chicken alfredo, no I haven’t surrendered to eating fish JUST yet) and a good time all around. We ended the evening by checking out the Alaskan pipeline, which was fantastic. They drove me out a bit to one of the areas where the pipeline is above ground and I got to touch it and take pictures and checkout one of the “pigs” which is the device used in cleaning the pipeline. So all in all, even though I would have been perfectly happy spending this fine summer day in bed if I was in Hawai’i, it ended up being a great and very productive day. Yay Alaska! And thanks Dr. Charles!

By the way if you want to know anything, ask me anything, or to just say hello, go ahead and leave a comment or message me on Facebook or by email. Just saying.

Anyways,

Tschuss!
